“On May 8, 2022, on the eve of the 77th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia laid a wreath at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Alexander Garden near the Kremlin Wall,” the message on the website of the Russian Orthodox Church says.

It is noted that the military commandant of the city of Moscow, Lieutenant-General Yevgeny Selezenev, took part in the ceremony.

The Patriarch noted that Victory Day in 1945 fell on the celebration of Easter.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Ukrainian citizens, including veterans of the Great Patriotic War.
