The amount of water in Lake Shisper Glacier has increased by 40 percent in 20 days, local media reports cite experts.

The reason is stated to be the unusually large and sudden temperature increase in the area.

Glaciers that are melting at a rapid pace are said to have created more than 3,000 glacier lakes in the area, of which 33 risk bursting soon and sending torrents of water down through the streams.

Vulnerable have been moved

The bridge was cleared well before the collapse, according to Hunza District Deputy Commissioner Usman Ali.

- In the morning we started to redirect the traffic.

"We have stationed police so that tourists or others do not encounter problems," Usman Ali told the Pamir Times.

While waiting for the water flow to pass, the damage is evaluated.

- We have moved all people who are vulnerable to the water flow and provided them with rations.

At the moment, thankfully, no person is left in the risk zone, says Usman Ali.

No person is said to have been injured in connection with the collapse of the bridge.
