On May 6, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian presided over a regular press conference.

A reporter asked: Tomorrow is May 7.

Twenty-three years ago, on May 7, 1999, NATO bombed the Chinese embassy in Yugoslavia, killing three Chinese journalists and wounding more than 20 Chinese diplomats.

As this special day is approaching, what message does China hope to send?

Zhao Lijian said that the Chinese people will never forget that on May 7, 1999, the US-led NATO bombed the Chinese embassy in the Yugoslavia, killing three Chinese journalists and injuring more than 20 Chinese diplomats.

The Chinese people will never forget this barbaric act of NATO and will never allow the historical tragedy to repeat itself.

NATO claims to be a defensive organization, but in fact it has violated international law many times, wantonly waged wars against sovereign countries, undermined world and regional peace, and resulted in the death and displacement of a large number of innocent civilians.

NATO blindly pursues "absolute security" and has expanded eastward for five consecutive rounds after the Cold War, which not only failed to make Europe more secure, but sowed the seeds of conflict between Russia and Ukraine, leading to renewed war in the European continent.

The Cold War has long since ended. The common aspiration of people all over the world is to seek peace, seek cooperation and promote development. NATO headed by the United States should make necessary adjustments based on the situation, completely abandon the Cold War mentality, and stop provoking camp confrontation in Europe, the Asia-Pacific region and the world. To create tensions, the US and NATO should take practical actions to do something practical for world peace, stability and development.
