On May 5, local time, a team of doctors from the University of Maryland said that David Bennett, the world's first patient to receive a pig heart transplant, died two months after surgery, and the cause of death may be related to a pig virus.

According to researchers at the University of Maryland, they found a viral DNA in transplanted pig hearts.

The virus is called porcine cytomegalovirus, but the researchers found no signs of active infection caused by the virus.

This patient received a transplanted pig heart on January 7, 2022 at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, USA.

The special transplant was the first of its kind in the world, but the patient survived only about two months after the operation.
