THE ESSENTIAL

  • Emmanuel Macron was re-elected President of the Republic on April 24 by obtaining 58.55% of the vote in the second round of the 2022 presidential election against Marine Le Pen, the candidate of the National Rally, who won 41.45% .

  • This Saturday, Emmanuel Macron will be invested for his second term after his victory on April 24.

The ceremony will take place from 11 a.m. in the village hall of the Eysée.

  • The fact remains that nearly two weeks after the re-election of the head of state, there is still not the shadow of a reshuffle on the horizon.

And the uncertainty should last at least a few more days, since it is certain that "the Castex government will go to the end of Emmanuel Macron's first five-year term which ends on May 13 at midnight", said spokesperson Gabriel Attal. .

Presidential results 2022: Emmanuel Macron, president of "Instagrammable France" to "everything but Macron"

10:31 a.m .: Emmanuel Macron, from “Instagrammable France” to “Everything but Macron”

He was the favorite for a second term.

Emmanuel Macron was re-elected President of the Republic in the second round of presidential elections.

The French were faced with a historic choice: to renew the outgoing president, which has never been done - apart from cohabitation - since the adoption of direct universal suffrage in 1962. Or elect a woman and propel the far right to the Elysée – which would also have been a first for two reasons.

The re-election of Emmanuel Macron represents continuity, even if the president-candidate has promised to renew himself in depth, ensuring that he wants to place ecology at the heart of his second – and last – term.

10:28 a.m.: Trip to Berlin on Monday

French President Emmanuel Macron will travel to Berlin on Monday to meet Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

This first trip since his re-election and his investiture, will be an opportunity to mark “the strength of the Franco-German couple”, announced this Thursday the Elysée.

Emmanuel Macron will arrive in Berlin after taking part in Europe Day, at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, where the closing ceremony of the Conference on the Future of Europe will be held, one year after its launch.

With Olaf Scholz, he will address "issues related to the war in Ukraine and issues of European sovereignty", in particular "on the aspects of defense and energy", specified the Elysée.

10:21 am: From LREM to Renaissance

From a sentence, Emmanuel Macron's party becomes a word.

“Today we are initiating a movement to rebuild La République en Marche, in order to be able to continue to expand this political movement created by the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron a little over six years ago, in a political party that will bear the name of Renaissance”, indicated the general delegate of the party, Stanislas Guerini.

A party intended to "be faithful to the will of the President of the Republic" which is "always to make the choice of Enlightenment against obscurantism" and "faithful to what we are doing on the European scene", he insisted, adding that it will be "open to citizens, elected officials, local elected officials wherever they come from" and "to current and future partners of the presidential majority".

10:15 am: Cannon shots for Macron

Under the golds of the Elysée village hall, Emmanuel Macron will be invested this Saturday morning for his second five-year term.

No long red carpet in the courtyard of the Elysée, nor going up the Champs-Elysées: the moment will be less spectacular than the arrival of a new president welcomed by his predecessor.

We take stock.
