Four suspects, of Bosnian origin, were placed in pre-trial detention, pending their trial, on June 15, before the correctional court of Béziers (Hérault).

They are accused of having committed thefts in motorhomes on the A9 motorway, said Friday Raphaël Balland, the prosecutor of Béziers.

Since the summer of 2021, the police had noted a strong upsurge in thefts, committed at night, in motorhomes, in areas of the A9 motorway.

The criminals forced the doors, following a similar procedure, and stole multimedia objects, administrative documents, cash and means of payment.

The thugs were sometimes put to flight by the alarm clock of the owners, who slept in their motorhome, relates the prosecutor of Béziers.

Stolen items and 55,000 euros in cash discovered

After meticulous investigations, four suspects were arrested on May 3, after a new series of misdeeds, in the Pyrénées-Orientales, Aude and Hérault.

They were arrested in the Pyrénées-Orientales and in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes).

They are suspected of having committed 49 thefts or attempted thefts.

The searches, carried out by the investigators in a vehicle and in two dwellings, made it possible to discover numerous stolen objects and more than 55,000 euros in cash.

In addition, the suspects are also suspected of having regularly forced the toll gates, causing damage estimated at more than 17,000 euros.
