The firefighters who intervened on Thursday in Saint-Pons-la-Calm (Gard) will no doubt remember it for a long time: alerted by witnesses, they rescued an injured wallaby, very close to this village of 450 inhabitants.

The animal was captured by the department's Fire and Rescue Service animal team.

Testimonials

A few hours earlier, the gendarmes had received two astonishing testimonies, from people who had seen the wallaby strolling in the middle of nature, not far from there.

They went to the scene each time.

The first time, they didn't find it.

The second time, they did indeed see him, and alerted the fire brigade.

The animal was taken to a veterinarian for treatment.

However, the authorities have no idea where the animal jumped from, which we do not usually come across in the Gard countryside: its owner is actively sought.
