“Eventually they could make 600 to 900 meals a day, can you imagine the number of deliveries and scooters that this will generate?

asks Marie-Laure Ichanjou, president of the Chalets-Roquelaine neighborhood association in Toulouse.

In mid-April, the Popafood company opened a “dark kitchen” on avenue Honoré-Serres and since then residents have been against this establishment.

For them, the establishment of this business, which will eventually have twelve different kitchens, will be a source of nuisance, whether noise, with the comings and goings of delivery people or trucks, or pollution, due to the fumes from the kitchens.

After writing to the mayor, but also launching a petition, they decided to step up again to denounce this new type of business which, for them, is like a “great step backwards at the social level”.

Reviews that the co-founder of Popafood has trouble digesting.

For Eric Descargues, his establishment is not just a "dark kitchen", but above all a business because the brands present on his site today offer take-out sales thanks to self-service terminals installed in the lobby.

But above all, for him, “local residents imagine problems that do not exist”.

vigilant town hall

“They tell us about the noise, but before we cover the noise on Avenue Honoré Serres, which is very busy, it's not about to happen.

Most delivery people come by electric bike and we direct them.

As for the smells, we installed filters and we explained everything to them when they came to visit”, continues the creator of Popafood, who rents his kitchens to companies.

For this entrepreneur, these grievances are not unanimous in the neighborhood.

Many local residents come to place orders, and they “meet a consumer need”.

For its part, the town hall has not yet registered any complaint against this establishment.

“We held meetings on several occasions with the inhabitants and we asked them to respect certain noise level rules.

We remain vigilant, ”assures the district mayor, Caroline Adoue-Bielsa.
