According to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), this will provide “support” to Uzbek legal institutions that work, among other things, with labor migrants who have returned from Russia.

“The Agency for International Development is doing this.

This is called "soft power".

This is work with various segments of the population, with youth, with politicians, in this case, with returning migrant workers ... This is a rather extensive system of programs, the purpose of which is to influence the situation in a particular country through participation in various programs,” the expert said.

He noted that "the funds requested by the agency can be used for other purposes."

“They themselves will not spend this money, but will transfer it to other organizations, American NGOs, which will do this,” Rogulev added.

Earlier it became known that the United States will increase the budget of the program to "support" legal reforms in Uzbekistan.

The project was supposed to end in August 2023, but USAID proposed to extend it until the end of November 2024.

The American agency has requested an additional $3 million for the program. Thus, its total budget will be almost $19 million.
