Lee Jae-myung, senior adviser to the Democratic Party, was strategically nominated as a candidate for the Incheon by-election in Gyeyang.

Lee decided to appear in the by-election to be held along with the June 1 local elections and at the same time take on the role of the head of the general standing election countermeasures committee and take the lead in this election.

The Democratic Party Emergency Response Committee held a meeting today (6th) and decided to strategically nominate this advisor to the Incheon Gyeyang-eul constituency, where the by-election will be held due to Song Young-gil's running for Seoul mayor.

"The Democratic Party leadership asked adviser Jae-myung Lee to run for the victory in the branch election, and adviser Lee also agreed to that," said Ko Yong-jin, senior spokesperson for the Democratic Party.

The Gyeyang-eul district in Incheon, where Lee will be a candidate, has become vacant due to Song Young-gil's running for mayor of Seoul.

The Democratic Party also announced that it had appointed Lee as the chairman of the general election for the local elections in June.

The Democratic Party plans to launch a branch election committee on the 11th, so it is expected that Lee's official schedule will start as early as this weekend or early next week.

Senior Spokesperson Koh Yong-jin said, "The non-captain has never discussed (Lee Jae-myung's strategic nomination)," he said. explained.

As the local elections in June approached and analyzes came out that the Democratic Party was inferior in the metropolitan area, where it was winning, voices continued within the Democratic Party that adviser Lee should run in the by-election.

The analysis is based on the fact that the effect of gathering supporters is maximized when this adviser runs for office.

There were voices of criticism from the People's Power over Lee's strategic nomination.

People's Power Representative Lee Jun-seok said, "It is difficult to find justification for the strategic nomination for adviser Lee Jae-myung. How will it be interpreted that former candidate Lee, who emphasized ties with Bundang, Seongnam and Gyeonggi-do, went to the outer ring road to Gyeyang, Incheon, without any connection?" Said.

In the midst of this, Ahn Cheol-soo, chairman of the Presidential Transition Committee, also officially declared his candidacy for the by-election.

Chairman Ahn met with reporters this afternoon after attending the National Report on Policy Tasks in Gyeonggi Province and asked a question 'I want to clarify my position on running for Bundangap', saying, "I will throw myself to win the election not only in Bundangap, but also in the metropolitan area, including Gyeonggi Province." said.

Chairman Ahn said, "As Gyeonggi Governor Kim Eun-hye comes forward, sincere requests from inside and outside the party continue to ask for me to run for Bundangap to win not only Gyeonggi Province but also the metropolitan area. I plan to play a role in helping to facilitate cooperation with the company,” he said.
