Question from China News Agency: According to reports, during the US-UK Indo-Pacific affairs consultation in early March this year, the US and the UK discussed for the first time how to strengthen cooperation to reduce the risk of war in the Taiwan Strait and conflict contingency plans.

What is China's comment?

Zhao Lijian: There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. This is a historical and legal fact, as well as the consensus of the international community.

The Taiwan issue is purely China's internal affairs, and no foreign country has the right to interfere.

At present, the situation in the Taiwan Strait is facing a new round of tension. The root cause is that the Taiwan authorities are "relying on the United States to seek independence", and some people in the United States intend to "use Taiwan to control China".

For a period of time, the US has stepped up its "Taiwan card", hyping up Taiwan-related issues together with certain countries in an attempt to promote the internationalization of the Taiwan issue.

Relevant actions endanger the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait, and go further and further down a very dangerous road.

The US and relevant countries should stop interfering in China's internal affairs, abide by the one-China principle, and handle Taiwan-related issues prudently.
