The problems with Lake Yxern in Västervik municipality have been a serial.

The lake, which today is regulated by dust hatches, has on several occasions been almost dry during the summer months.

Now the municipality wants to remove the water regulation in the lake, but it has created new wild protests.

Lars-Olof Engström runs a farm next to Yxeredsån with 150 animals.

For generations, water has been fetched from the river.

Now he is worried about the future.

- We may be forced to close down the business if this is implemented, there will be no water in the river when we need it most, he says.

The locals are worried

Several people in the communities of Yxered and Totebo are very upset about the municipality's plans to abolish the regulation of water flow and demolish the dam hatches.

- Dryer summers in the future with dehumidification in Yxern, then no water will come out of the rivers through this voting table, says Lars-Olof Lageman, chairman of Yxered's community association.

Sees no strangeness

But according to Västervik municipality, it will not be a problem to replace the dust hatches with a tuning table that is now planned to be built at the outlet of Yxern.

- No, I do not see any strangeness with this.

But do you understand that the people by the river are worried?

- Yes, I understand the concern.

But I have counted.

If, for example, you were to take a decimeter and lower the Ax, that water would be enough for the entire city of Västervik for 140 days.

I think the problem is more about the design of the voting table.

The decision from the Land and Environment Court will be made on 20 May.
