The survey was conducted after the Left Party's leader Nooshi Dadgoostar stated that her party demands a referendum on a Swedish NATO membership.

However, Swedes are not as positive: Only 29 percent want to see a referendum on the issue and 9 percent have answered do not know.

- It is possible that those who do not want to join NATO see a referendum as an opportunity to stop Swedish membership.

While those who are in favor have no problems with the ongoing process, says Mats Knutson, SVT's political commentator.

Mainly S who hesitates

At the same time, the proportion of Swedes who state that they are hesitant about NATO membership is increasing.

The proportion who answer that they do not know whether Sweden should join NATO has increased from 22 to 27 percent compared with last week's survey.

Mats Knutson believes that this may be related to the ongoing debate.

- We have had a domestic political NATO debate in earnest where debaters also highlight the disadvantages of membership.

Not least among Social Democrats and that is above all where the debate takes place, he says.

It is also mainly the Social Democratic sympathizers who have begun to hesitate.

The proportion who answer do not know has gone from 26 to 35 percent, which is a statistically significant increase.

The proportion who think that Sweden should join NATO in this survey is 48 percent and those who are against are 25 percent.
