The director of the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron, in the southern West Bank, accused Israel of carrying out several violations that affect the sanctity of the mosque, including holding loud parties in its corridors and internal courtyards, and preventing the call to prayer for a number of prayers.

The director of the mosque, Ghassan Al-Rajabi, told Anadolu Agency today, Thursday, that several Israeli violations that affect the sanctity of the Ibrahimi Mosque have been observed in recent days, including preventing the call to prayer, lighting the menorah on its roof, and holding loud parties in its corridors.

Al-Rajbi added that the recent Israeli violations in and around the Ibrahimi Mosque are an attack and a provocation to the feelings of Muslims.

Among those violations, according to the mosque’s director, was preventing the call to prayer for Maghrib and Isha times on Wednesday, raising Israeli flags on the mosque’s roof and walls, and installing and lighting a menorah on its roof.

He added that the Israeli occupation army also abused the mosque's workers, those entering it and those stationed there, and subjected them to a physical search.

He pointed out that the reinforcements of the Israeli settlers in the mosque and its surroundings began since last Monday, and thousands of them participated in them, who were taken by buses to the center of Hebron.

The Israeli violations in Hebron coincide with the escalation in Jerusalem due to the repeated incursions by settlers into Al-Aqsa Mosque, the latest of which was this Thursday morning, when groups of settlers stormed the mosque since the morning hours, coinciding with Israel’s celebration of what it calls the 74th “Independence Day.”

The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation stated that Air Force planes flew for the first time in the sky of Hebron on the occasion of Independence Day.

The Ibrahimi Mosque is located in the old city of Hebron, which is under Israeli control, while the mosque’s management is affiliated to the Palestinian Ministry of Endowments.

Since 1994, the Ibrahimi Mosque - which is believed to have been built on the tomb of the Prophet of God Abraham, peace and blessings be upon him - has been divided into two parts, a section for Muslims and another for Jews, after a Jewish settler killed 29 Muslims while performing the dawn prayer on February 25 of the same year. .

Israel is seeking to completely seize the Ibrahimi Mosque, which contradicts international laws, at a time when the Palestinians say that the authority in the Ibrahimi Mosque based on the Oslo Accords (1993) is the municipality of Hebron, not Israel.

The international community considers settlement in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, illegal.
