THE ESSENTIAL

  • On June 12 and 19, the French men and women will elect the 577 deputies of the National Assembly.

And, be careful, if you are not registered on the electoral lists, the last day to apply online was… this Wednesday.

  • The main left-wing parties signed a historic agreement on Wednesday to present single candidates under the banner "New popular ecological and social union".

  • The Socialist Party will submit to its internal parliament this evening this agreement with La France insoumise at a time when the party threatens to explode, several figures rejecting the alliance.

8:30 a.m.: The slingshot

The socialist leadership is also facing the revolt of party figures, who have already been critical in recent years but let their anger burst as the agreement took shape.

Nothing less than the president of the socialist group in the Assembly, Valérie Rabault, let it be known internally that she would not support the agreement.

François Hollande has thus "challenged the agreement on the substance and the constituencies", while his former Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve has announced that he will carry out his threat by leaving the party.

🔴 Bernard Cazeneuve turns the page on socialism.

The former Prime Minister announced this Wednesday to leave the Socialist Party (PS) after the alliance sealed with La France insoumise (LFI) for the legislative elections.

Another of his Prime Ministers Jean-Marc Ayrault for his part denounced a "tinkering" and the "exorbitant price" paid by the PS.

They are all offended by an alliance with a historical antagonist of the PS, Jean-Luc Mélenchon.

But also the inclusion in the agreement of “disobedience” to the European treaties in the event of blocking to apply the program, or even many social measures which they consider impossible to finance.

8:25 am: Three outgoing sacrificed

Among the 70 constituencies obtained by the LFI-PS agreement, a good twenty constituencies are winnable.

But three outgoing were sacrificed: David Habib in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Christian Hutin in the North and Michèle Victory in the Ardèche.

To which is added the 1st constituency in the Loire of Régis Juanico (Generations), which the PS thought of recovering.

8:15 a.m.: "It's going to be a titanic battle"

"It's going to be a titanic battle because I hear what can be said, I hear the anger that can be provoked in particular on the distribution of constituencies", released the spokesman of the PS Pierre Jouvet, chief negotiator of the agreement, on France Info.

However, Pierre Jouvet intimates to the members of the National Council: “Do not turn your back on this gathering and on the left-wing people who are waiting for us, and who believe that we have finally reconciled to move forward together, to change people's lives.

8:10 am: Try to convince the 300 members of parliament

The first secretary Olivier Faure and his lieutenants have given themselves 24 hours to try to convince the 300 members of this parliament, where they are however a priori the majority.

“It will not be a formality, quite the contrary”, confided the entourage of Olivier Faure.

"There will be disappointed, among the federations less served than others" among the 70 constituencies obtained.

8 a.m.: The PS on the verge of explosion

The Socialist Party submits Thursday evening to its internal parliament the agreement reached with La France insoumise for the legislative elections, a "titanic battle" at a time when the party threatens to explode, several figures rejecting the alliance.

First Secretary Olivier Faure and his lieutenants have been exhausted negotiating, day and night for a week, an agreement with LFI to be in a position to save most of their outgoing deputies.

But they are not at the end of their sentence.

The vote on this text from 7 p.m. at the National Council, organized by videoconference and in person at the headquarters of Ivry-sur-Seine, promises them a few cold sweats.
