• A 50-year-old man was sentenced to four years in prison, one of which was suspended, for shooting from his window at men who came to fight with his son.

  • The victim and four other people had come to collect the money for a drug-related debt contracted by his son.

  • The court accepted the facts of violence aggravated by two circumstances (use of a weapon and manifest drunkenness) and repeated death threats.

Three men were sentenced to prison terms by the Béziers Criminal Court after a brawl over drug debt.

On the night of April 29 to 30, a 34-year-old man arrived at Bousquet-d'Orb, a town in Hérault.

He was accompanied by his wife and three men, aged 19 to 25, members of the same family and domiciled in Bédarieux.

They had come to settle a drug debt owed to them by two men, aged 19 and 31.

Alerted by the brawl, the father of one of the two protagonists, in a state of inebriation, had then fired towards the vehicle with a 22 carbine long rifle, and hit the youngest of the men from Bédarieux in the shoulder.

The victim had been transported to the emergency room of the polyclinic of Bédarieux, then operated in emergency at the CHU of Montpellier without his life being in danger (45 days of ITT).

Two of the men involved in the brawl convicted of mutual violence

At the immediate appearance hearing, the shooter was sentenced to four years' imprisonment with continued detention, including one year accompanied by a suspended probation with the obligations to treat himself, to work and to compensate the victims.

The court accepted the facts of violence aggravated by two circumstances (use of a weapon and manifest drunkenness) and repeated death threats.

He explained to the hearing "to have been afraid for his son and to have acted under the influence of alcohol", explains the public prosecutor of Béziers, Raphaël Balland.

He had never been convicted before.

For their part, two of the individuals at the origin of the brawl, already known to justice, were sentenced for reciprocal violence.

The fourth defendant prosecuted for having moved his father's weapon before the arrival of the gendarmes was released.
