Hallenberg, who works as a research leader at the Foreign Policy Institute, does not believe that Russia possesses the ability at present.

- Russia is busy with a major war in Ukraine.

Attacking Sweden and Finland are major military operations, not in one afternoon nor in three months.

The Swedish government has been careful not to call the promises security guarantees, something that can only be given to full members of the defense alliance.

Despite this, the insurances are not without weight, according to Jan Hallenberg.

- It shows that Sweden and Finland are important states.

It sends a signal to anyone who might attack, namely Russia, that this will not happen without countermeasures.
