Popular American comedian David Chapelle was attacked by an audience on stage.

The Wall Street Journal and CNN reported that during a comedy show held the night before at the Hollywood Bowl, a famous venue in Los Angeles, an audience broke into the stage and knocked Chapelle to the floor.

This male spectator was carrying a weapon along with a fake gun and was subdued by bodyguards.

Chapelle, who fell to the floor after colliding with a male audience who jumped in, got up and continued the performance.

Comedian Chris Rock, who was slapped on the face by actor Will Smith for joking his wife at the 94th Academy Awards, went out on stage to joke, "Is it just Will Smith?"

Los Angeles police arrested and charged the man with assault, which constitutes a felony, but the cause of the offense is unknown.

However, there are local media reports that assume that Chapelle was controversial as a joke against sexual minorities as the background of the incident.

Chapelle has provoked a backlash from LGBTQ people on Netflix's comedy show by repeatedly making jokes that crossed the line about his transgender people.

Chapelle is an American popular comedian who won three consecutive Grammy Awards for her comedy albums, along with an Emmy.
