In just a few weeks, the Social Democrats are expected to announce whether the party has turned its back on NATO.

However, there are many indications that the war in Ukraine will lead to Sweden abandoning the freedom of alliance after more than 200 years.

The Sweden Democrats have also turned to NATO, and right now the Left Party stands out among the parties with its harsh rhetoric: the party has, among other things, demanded a referendum on NATO membership.

- This is a decision that entails so far-reaching commitments, and which in our opinion will make Sweden more insecure, says the V-leader to Politikbyrån.

Directs criticism of S

Nooshi Dadgostar also gives the Social Democrats a boot:

- They went to the polls because they said no to NATO.

Just a few months ago, Peter Hultqvist said that as long as he is Minister of Defense in a Social Democratic government, they would not lead Sweden into NATO.

I now notice that they are trying to bring politicians into the ranks of the Social Democratic Party.

Critics say you are not rooted in defense policy?

- I have a very hard time understanding why you want to explain each other stupid.

We need to have a debate about whether it is good or bad for Sweden's security to join NATO, and that is where the Swedish people need to join.

- We can not just have different types of politicians and experts who make these decisions in closed rooms.

This is an extremely big decision that will affect generations to come.

That is also why NATO demands that there be popular support.

"Hair-traveling"

The left-wing leader also says that the process is "extremely forced".

- I have never seen it in my political life.

Where such a major and central issue for Sweden is rushed forward in this way.

That is not reasonable.

The Swedish people must be told what the benefits are but also the risks so that we can have an anchored decision.

A referendum could take place this year, so it is also a quick timetable.

But doing this in two to three weeks is absolutely hair-raising.
