The North American press continues to report on the leak of an internal document from the Supreme Court which is about to annul the right to abortion.

The draft ruling authored by conservative Judge Samuel Alito shows just how hard Republicans are trying to advance their political agenda, writes the

Miami Herald

.

According to The

Washington Post

, the prospect of repealing Roe v.

Wade will have the effect of mobilizing abortion advocates six months before the midterm elections.

A mobilization that will affect the campaign for the legislative elections, while reinforcing the already significant division of American society, the newspaper believes.

So far, next November's ballot has looked like a referendum on Joe Biden's first two years in the White House.

But now, the

Washington Post

continues , the campaign could turn into a battle between two societal choices.

The central issue: human dignity

This is highlighted by the Canadian newspaper

Le Devoir

.

Restrictions on the right to abortion mainly affect women who cannot afford to travel and have an abortion in another state.

Among these women, those who belong to "

 black or Latino minorities

", who have no insurance or legal status.

This opens the door to the use of dangerous or poorly regulated abortion methods

,

writes

Le Devoir

, which specifies that “

many of the states in a hurry to ban abortion are also those where the social safety net for women and children is the poorest and where child poverty rates are high.

Look for the error

,

concludes the newspaper.

Extradition to the United States of a Haitian gang leader

The extradition of the leader of the 400 Mawozo gang is also commented on in the American press.

According to the

Miami Herald

, the worsening violence attributed to the 400 Mawozo gang probably accelerated the extradition process for Germine Joly, alias Yonyon.

Most of the money obtained through kidnapping and extortion practices went directly into the pockets of the gang leader

,” writes the Miami Herald.

"

The money was used to buy weapons and to bribe police and judges

."

Also according to the

Miami Herald

, another objective of the extradition of the leader of the 400 Mawozo is to cause panic within the criminal gangs in Haiti.

Because the American authorities, thanks to the extradition of Germine Joly, can find out more about the functioning and organization of gangs in Haiti, explains human rights activist Pierre Espérance to the

Miami Herald

newspaper .

A district of Port-au-Prince terrorized by gang warfare

Gang violence, particularly in the Plaine du Cul-de-Sac district, is also the subject of the editorial in Le

Nouvelliste

.

Since April 24, the entire Cul-de-Sac plain has been set ablaze

,” writes Frantz Duval.

Rumors “

 report the most serious atrocities.

Mexican photos are circulating, unbearable stories are being shared

,” continues the editor-in-chief, before emphasizing that “

(…)

neither the press, nor the organizations for the defense of human rights, nor the Civil Protection, which had established an initial assessment, and nor the police, no one can make an exact count of the horrors

.

According to Le

Nouvelliste

, “

fear has replaced peace at the northern exit of the capital

.

And the newspaper quotes a leader of a police union explaining that “(

)

that the police, during clashes with gangs, react with their limited means.

Our police officers are sent on a mission with their nails

,

denounces this police officer again.

According to Le

Nouvelliste,

"

a dozen kidnappings were recorded in the metropolitan area at the beginning of May

"

.

Tensions between the Brazilian government and the Supreme Court

Faced with repeated attacks by far-right President Jair Bolsonaro against the electoral process by raising the threat of military intervention in the counting of the ballots, the Supreme Court was forced to reframe the government.

It's on the front page of the weekly

Carta Capital

.

The President of the Supreme Court met with the Minister of Defense who assured him that the army “

 undertook to respect Brazilian democracy

.

The newspaper

O Estado

, for its part, notes that President Bolsonaro has been “

 strengthening the crisis

” with the Supreme Court for two weeks, while the unemployment and inflation rate continues to rise.

According to the G1 news site, Brazilians have lost 30 percent of purchasing power in 5 years.
