At the entrance to the "Audrey Hepburn Garden", passers-by are now greeted by a small bronze bust bearing her likeness, the same as the one already installed in the 1990s in Arnhem (Netherlands), stronghold of her maternal family.

"There are now two busts of her in the two cities where she spent her childhood," explained her son Sean Hepburn Ferrer, present for the inauguration.

It was organized on the same day that the star who died in 1993 would have been 93 years old.

Oscar-winning actress at the age of 23 for her role in "Roman Holiday", world icon of fashion (she was a muse of Givenchy), Audrey Hepburn - whose real name is Audrey Ruston - was born on May 4, 1929, in 48 rue Keyenveld, in the Brussels municipality of Ixelles.

She was born to a mother from the Dutch aristocracy and a British father who was then working for the Belgian branch of the Bank of England.

The future star lived in Brussels for the first "five-six" years of his life, until his father left the family, which then settled in Arnhem during the war, Sean Hepburn told AFP Ferrer, the son she had in 1960 with American actor Mel Ferrer.

This film producer, who lives in Italy, spoke of the importance his mother had of her role as an ambassador for Unicef ​​during the last years of her life (1988-93).

He saw "a symbol" in the fact that she now "watches over children playing" in a square, a few hundred meters from her birthplace.

The bronze sculpture was made by Dutch artist Kees Verkade after the death of Audrey Hepburn, at the request of her family.

The sparkling-faced actress had a string of successes in the 1950s and 1960s in Hollywood, with films like "Roman Holiday", "Funny Face", "Diamonds on the Sofa" or "My Fair Lady".
