The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi is on a European tour this week and Modi made a state visit to Denmark on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, he will meet in Copenhagen Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and the heads of government from Norway, Iceland and Finland.

- India has good relations with all the Nordic countries.

Denmark and India are good friends and have very close ties, among other things they have a very far-reaching cooperation agreement on green conversion which will now be followed up, says Samuel Larsson.

Difficult discussions about the war

When it comes to discussions about the war in Ukraine, it can burn at the meeting, because India and the Nordic countries are very far apart in the view of Russia's invasion, states Samuel Larsson.

He believes that the Nordic leaders will mark their position but at the same time try not to make it impossible to continue good relations with India.

- India are good friends with the Nordic countries but they are also good friends with Russia.

They have not condemned Russia's invasion of Ukraine and buy very many of their weapons from Russia and since the war started, they have increased their purchases of Russian oil, says Samuel Larsson.

- I think that Magdalena Andersson will raise the view of the Russian invasion, the question is just how it will be formulated.

She strikes a balance between the great interests Sweden has in India and the current world political situation, which of course can not be avoided at a meeting like this.

In addition to the war, security policy and climate, trade relations with India and innovation and digitalisation are also on the agenda.
