• Congress The PP helps the Government and tomb with the PSOE to create an investigation commission on espionage

  • Courts The National High Court opens an investigation for a crime of discovery and disclosure of secrets

Public knowledge of the espionage on the cell phones of Pedro Sánchez and the Defense Minister, Margarita Robles, has called into question the work of the intelligence services, of State security.

From the president's terminal, in two intrusions in May 2021, 2.6 gigabytes of information were stolen.

Added to this is the case of espionage against the independentists.

The

Government

hoped that the appearance of the director of the

CNI

in the

Commission of Official Secrets

of the

Congress

would deflate the controversy, but the espionage to the head of the Executive has placed her in the pillory.

La Moncloa

"supports" her work but avoid ratifying or compromising its continuity in the future.

From La Moncloa, in a delicate situation such as the current one, where a breach in State security has been verified that has made it possible to capture information from the president's cell phone, a public effort is made to support the work of the CNI and, of course, therefore of its highest authority.

But the backup is today.

In the future...

Two heavyweights of the presidential complex, such as the Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, and the spokeswoman for the Executive, Isabel Rodríguez, have shown distance about the future from

Paz Esteban

, director of the CNI.

Bolaños, in an interview in Ser, took care of her not to ratify her outright in office.

He has limited himself to pointing out: "She is still in office. She is working to clarify these facts, which is the phase we are in."

Explicitly asked if the Government rules out Esteban resigning in the coming days or weeks, Isabel Rodríguez has distanced herself: "We cannot talk about the future. At all times, and attending to each report, we will share information and make decisions in this regard ".

The forecast is that the director of the CNI will appear this Thursday in Congress, in the official secrets commission, at 09:00.

It would not make sense to relieve her now in her position a few days before this appointment.

In addition, the government promised an internal investigation by the CNI to the independentistas to find out what happened and, only then, make decisions.

The forecast is that Esteban will go to the Chamber with reports and documents, both related to the secessionists and to the espionage of Sánchez and Robles, so that the circumstances can be clarified.

And after the explanations?

"Each moment has its eagerness. We are in the phase of clarifying what happened to whoever has happened to it. And this is decisive to see how we correct what happened."

The Government has wanted to place special emphasis on "putting value" on the work of the 3,000 people who work at the CNI.

"We have a magnificent security agency. It is up to the Government to value the daily effort of those who watch over the safety of all", trying to calm the discomfort in the secret services after the public surveys that certify these security breaches.

And it is that as this newspaper has reported, in the CNI there is discomfort at the espionage leak to Sánchez: "It leaves us at the feet of the horses. If it happens to you, it is not counted."
