President Moon Jae-in today (3rd) at the last cabinet meeting during his term in office, voted to abolish the prosecution's investigative authority, promulgation of the so-called 'complete inspection'.

Regarding the Prosecutor's Office Act and Criminal Proceedings Act, which were decided at the cabinet meeting today, President Moon said, "We will narrow the crimes that the prosecution can directly initiate an investigation into to corruption and economic crimes, separate investigations and prosecutions within the prosecution, and limit the investigation of excessive special cases. There is,” he introduced.



However, he said, "We will retain the prosecution's supplementary investigative authority to determine whether to request a warrant or raise or maintain an indictment, and also temporarily maintain the prosecutor's authority to investigate the local elections in June in consideration of misunderstandings and concerns about election crimes." explained.



President Moon also asked the ministries to carry out follow-up work on 'Inspection and Perfection'.



He asked for prompt discussions such as the preparation of institutional grounds such as subordinate statutes and the establishment of a serious crime investigation agency through the special committee on judicial reform handled by the plenary session of the National Assembly today.



He also emphasized that even if the system changes, the prosecutors should cooperate organically for the investigation.



Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, who attended today's cabinet meeting, expressed strong concerns about the 'Inspection and Overhaul Bill' for reasons such as "delayed investigation, weakened investigative power, protection of the socially disadvantaged, and procedural fairness".



Today's cabinet meeting was originally scheduled for 10 am, but it was rescheduled to the afternoon in consideration of the bill being processed at the National Assembly plenary session at the same time.
