Pentagon chief expects face-to-face meeting with Chinese defense minister

“I will see him at the Shangri-La Dialogues forum in June,” Austin said during a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing.

As the head of the Pentagon noted, Washington and Beijing recognize the importance of maintaining contacts and open channels of communication.

“Together we want to make sure that we are working to promote security and stability in the region,” Austin added.

Forum "Dialogues in Shangri-La" will be held from 10 to 12 June.

Earlier it was reported that Japanese Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi will visit the United States from May 3 to 6 and will meet with Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin.
