The Civil Guard arrested last Thursday a 35-year-old man who lived for several months with the corpse of his 89-year-old grandmother,

in the apartment of the deceased located at number 2 of Castilla la Vieja street in Ciempozuelos,

according to a spokeswoman for the Madrid Command.

The first inquiries indicate that the grandson did not report the death of his grandmother to collect his pension, because he did not have a job and received no income.

The detainee is accused of

an alleged crime of abandonment of a relative

who, according to the first data, died of natural causes at the beginning of the year or at the end of 2021. The arrested person does not suffer from any type of mental disorder, according to the same sources.

The facts were discovered last Thursday in Ciempozuelos by

an off-duty agent who was walking down Castilla la Vieja street in the town

.

The civil guard was surprised by the stench coming from one of the buildings.

The agent notified his colleagues at the post, who went to the block and located the floor that gave off the strong odor.

At first, the grandson told the agents that his grandmother was not at home.

Finally, the guards found the rotten body of the octogenarian on the bed in one of the rooms of the house.

The head of the Valdemoro guard court went with the judicial delegation to the house, where she authorized the removal of the deceased's body and its transfer to the Valdebebas Institute of Legal Medicine.

The autopsy

has determined that she had been dead between three and four months

and that she showed no signs of violence or bruises.
