The first scaffolding has just been installed.

In a few days, weeks rather, major works will begin at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Strasbourg.

Their goals?

The restoration of the dome of the crossing of the transept.

This covers the choir of the monument and was built between 1980 and 1200. lasted nearly 300 years until its completion in the 15th century,” explains the Department of Cultural Affairs (Drac) of the Grand-Est.

A crane on the Place du Château

Even if the place is relatively preserved, “disorders, consequences of disasters suffered since the war of 1870 and certain inappropriate restorations of the end of the 19th century”, have been noted.

Outside, via a crane which will be installed on the Place du Château, “the cement coating applied to the extrados in 1872-1873” will be replaced by a lead cover.

Similarly, "the large bays of the neo-Romanesque tower of the crossroads, known as the Klotz tower, today closed with joinery" will be reopened, the Drac still provides.

Inside, the dome will be cleaned, its masonry “purged of salts […] then a new coating of lime mortar will be applied”.

In total, the works are scheduled for twenty-one months, i.e. until the beginning of 2024. Their costs?

Around 1.7 million euros all taxes included.
