4,380 large and medium-sized irrigation areas have irrigated 186 million mu of arable land

This newspaper, Beijing, May 2 (Reporter Wang Hao) is currently in the critical period and peak period of spring irrigation. The Ministry of Water Resources has made every effort to do a good job in spring irrigation and water supply, and consolidate the foundation for a bumper summer grain harvest.

According to statistics, as of April 28, 4,380 large and medium-sized irrigated areas across the country have started spring irrigation, with a cumulative water supply exceeding 25.6 billion cubic meters and an area of 186 million mu of irrigated arable land.

The water conservancy department will ensure the water demand for agricultural production to the greatest extent, continue to strengthen the guarantee of water supply, fully tap the regulation and storage capacity and water supply potential of water conservancy projects, and take comprehensive measures such as more storage, more diversion, more lifting, and more blocking, and strive to increase the amount of water available.

The management unit of the irrigation area strengthens the inspection and maintenance of engineering facilities such as pumping stations and canals to ensure the smooth water delivery of the irrigation and drainage system.

In terms of irrigation water management, water conservancy departments at all levels closely track the changes in water demand for spring irrigation, uniformly allocate various water sources such as surface water, groundwater, local water and external water, rationally formulate irrigation water supply plans, strengthen water volume scheduling, maintain irrigation order, and guide farmers. Strengthen field management to ensure normal irrigation.

It is understood that after years of hard work, more than 7,000 large and medium-sized irrigation areas have been built across the country.

Large and medium-sized irrigation areas have become the main fronts for the production of national grain and important agricultural products. The grain yield per unit is higher than the national average, accounting for about half of the national total.

This year, the Ministry of Water Resources has accelerated the construction and management of large and medium-sized irrigation areas, aiming at crop growth, flood control during flood season, climate change, etc., based on early start, early start, and early completion, to ensure that large-scale irrigation area reconstruction projects complete more than 90% of the central investment by the end of the year. The reconstruction project of the irrigation district has completed the target task of more than 80% of the central investment.
