It is known that President Moon Jae-in will not issue a special amnesty at the end of his term.

Former President Lee Myung-bak and former Gyeongnam Governor Kim Kyung-soo have been mentioned as targets for amnesty, but it is said that they judged that there was not enough public consensus.

It is known that President Moon Jae-in will not use his last pardon card during his tenure, which took place on the 8th, on the occasion of Buddha's birthday.

In the meantime, requests for amnesty have been raised not only from the political circles, but also from the religious and business circles, including former President Lee Myung-bak, former Gyeongnam Governor Kim Kyung-soo, Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong, and former Dongyang University professor Jeong Kyung-shim.

A high-ranking official at the Blue House said in a phone call with SBS, "We have no knowledge of the amnesty, nor have we officially discussed it."

Considering the preliminary procedures necessary for amnesty, such as the Amnesty Review Committee of the Ministry of Justice and the State Council meeting, the statement that there was no discussion until today (2nd) is interpreted to the effect that amnesty is difficult in the end.

A provisional cabinet meeting later this week could possibly raise a pardon, but the general consensus is that it is unlikely.

Multiple Blue House officials also expressed negative opinions citing physical time and lack of public consensus.

In an opinion poll by the Korea Institute of Social Opinion released today, 40.4% supported and 51.7% opposed the amnesty of former President Lee, and former Governor Kim had twice the number in favor.

President Moon has chosen judicial justice and public consensus as the criteria for reviewing amnesty.

[President Moon Jae-in/Press Conference (25th of last month): I think it is entirely up to the people to decide whether or not to run into judicial justice.] As President Moon Jae-in,

one week before his retirement, he has to consider the public opinion.

Whether or not to pardon former President Lee Myung-bak will be passed on to the next government.
