According to a survey by the Ifo Institute, significantly fewer companies than in January currently see their existence threatened: In April, 7.1 percent of companies said they feared for their survival, in January it was 13.7 percent like that Institute announced on Monday in Munich.

The proportion has therefore almost halved despite the Ukraine war.

“However, sectors that were particularly hard hit by the corona pandemic still see themselves as at risk.

These include the hospitality and event industry, where almost 25 percent of companies have existential concerns," said Klaus Wohlrabe, head of the Ifo surveys.

According to a survey, 6.9 percent of the companies in retail spoke of a situation that threatened their existence, in January it was 14.8 percent.

"The current inflation dynamic is currently not leaving any traces in these figures," said Wohlrabe.

In the service sector, the share was also 6.9 percent, after 15.1 percent in January.

According to the survey, companies in the IT sector or the housing industry have practically no existential worries.

According to the April survey, only 4.9 percent of companies in industry feared for their continued existence.

"The high level of insecurity caused by the war in Ukraine has not triggered any increased fear of existence in the key sectors," summarized Wohlrabe.

"The order books in the industry are still well filled."
