After having succeeded in concluding in the night a historic agreement for the legislative elections with EELV, La France insoumise wants this Monday to go further by resuming negotiations with the PS and the PCF, with the objective of going quickly and projecting itself towards the Saturday inaugurations.

With the creation of the "New popular ecological and social union", the protagonists of the long negotiations between EELV and LFI proclaimed their satisfaction in chorus in the radio and TV morning shows on Monday morning.

"It's a long discussion"

“It is historic because it triggers the beginning of a dynamic, which aims to ensure that the legislative elections are approached with a majority perspective”, indicated Manuel Bompard, the head of the rebellious negotiators, on France inter. .

"This is not an agreement between LFI and EELV, we want to build a common banner with all left-wing forces to build a majority", warned Julien Bayou, national secretary of EELV, hoping that the PS and the PCF enter the alliance on Monday.

Because it still remains to convince the PS to join this agreement of the left.

At the Paris headquarters of LFI, negotiations have resumed with the Socialists and, news of the day, the boss of the PS is present and EELV will participate in the discussions, while the meetings held so far by LFI have been bilateral.

"We gave ourselves the limit for this evening, even if we have to finish late, that's always the logic," said rebellious deputy Eric Coquerel in the afternoon.

The head of the socialist negotiators Pierre Jouvet for his part moderated: "We are not going to settle all the points in the space of a few hours when for ten years we have not spoken to each other".

"It's a long discussion where we don't have a prefixed timetable" because we have to "build something solid" and not "improvised", underlined Olivier Faure, who arrived in the middle of the afternoon at headquarters. of the Unsubmissive.

Internal sling at the PS

The first secretary of the PS must deal with the internal revolt of a minority current and several historical figures of the PS, from François Hollande to Jean-Christophe Cambadélis via Stéphane Le Foll, who accuse him of "submission" to LFI, antagonistic movement in recent years on subjects such as secularism or Europe.

“At the PS, they separate from people who have been at the heart of the problem of the left for ten years and I am happy with the Socialist Party that we have in front of us”, confided Eric Coquerel.

As for the communists, they should not be welcomed before 10:00 p.m.

“I hope that today we too will manage to conclude this agreement during the day, in the evening, in the night if necessary, until the end”, hammered their boss Fabien Roussel on franceinfo .

The agreement on the left will "finally take our revenge on this presidential election".

Settle disputes

Because this enlarged "People's Union" has the declared objective of sending Jean-Luc Mélenchon to Matignon, by obtaining a majority in the National Assembly.

Hence the bitter negotiations to settle disputes, such as the "disobedience" to certain European rules.

The text of the agreement between rebels and environmentalists confirms the possibility of disobeying if the EU prevents the program from applying, but only in budgetary and economic cases.

Any escalation towards an exit from the EU is prohibited, as requested by the Greens.

The investiture convention of the members of this "New popular ecological and social union" will take place in the Paris region on May 7th.

The objective is to allow everyone to enter the campaign quickly, first and foremost the leader of this alliance, Jean-Luc Mélenchon.

But no agreement should on the other hand be concluded with the Radical Left Party (PRG), which refused to negotiate with the other political forces of the left and will present its own candidates in the legislative elections, announced Monday its president Guillaume Lacroix.

"We cannot put the label of the PRG next to candidates against European universalism", the president of the centre-left party told the press.
