The Department of Community Development in Abu Dhabi announced that this year will witness the implementation of 21 initiatives within the executive plan of the People of Determination strategy, in various fields that make Abu Dhabi a global model in empowering and integrating different segments of society in achieving their aspirations and ambitions, and in line with the department's vision, to provide a decent life. for all members of society.
In detail, the Undersecretary of the Department, Eng. Hamad Ali Al Dhaheri, emphasized working to provide an appropriate environment that allows equal access for people of determination to rights, services and opportunities in health, social care, education, job opportunities, finance, and innovation so that Abu Dhabi is the world's leading city in empowering people of determination.
He stressed that the initiatives were designed based on listening to the voice of people of determination, to ensure the activation of the perspective that supports their rights and the social perspective of disability, which confirms that disability is not latent in the individual of people of determination... but rather as a result of environmental, behavioral, communication and organizational obstacles that exist in society.
He pointed out that the initiatives will cover six strategic axes, including health and rehabilitation, education, employment, social care, universal access, and enablers, in addition to the most important main elements, such as the quality of services and sustainable financing, with the aim of achieving the message of support for people of determination and their families within an integrated system that provides high-quality services. High quality to enable them to participate actively in society.
The Executive Director of the Office of Strategic Affairs in the department, Muhammad Hilal Al Balushi, stated that the focus this year in implementing the People of Determination strategy will be on activating the policies and programs that were prepared in the first year of the strategy, and transforming them into tangible results that benefit people of determination and their families, stressing that Effective communication and linking between all strategic axes is essential to achieving the desired strategic goals.
The initiatives include implementing the output stages of designing a file of services for people of determination and their families in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in the areas of rehabilitative health services, inclusive educational services and social services that support inclusive living with sustainable financing solutions models to support people of determination and their families in obtaining services at an affordable cost, and the implementation of the second phase of the training and capacity building initiative On inclusive practices, to enable entities to promote the integration and empowerment of people of determination, and the initiative to implement the integrated system for governance and evaluation of programs for people of determination on various government sectors, in addition to the initiative of the social protection system for people of determination.
While the initiatives of people of determination being implemented in the field of social care, also include the initiative to harmonize the unified local classification of disabilities in the Emirates, where 70% of the initiative has been completed, by adopting and circulating to the concerned authorities the third edition of the guide to classifying disabilities in Abu Dhabi, which is in line with the unified national classification. for disabilities, the community awareness initiative based on a human rights perspective on disability, the initiative of the family support system, caregivers for people of determination, and the initiative of the people of determination services officer.
The “Universal Access to Inclusive Cultural and Recreational Programs” initiative, where a detailed assessment of the accessibility of all cultural sites is currently being conducted with an action map to improve the accessibility of cultural facilities.
In the field of sports, the action plan includes the initiative for comprehensive access to inclusive sports programs, which includes preparing a number of sports clubs to be inclusive and inclusive of people of determination.
