To make it possible to combine electric cars and trains, the county administrative boards in Jämtland and Västernorrland are building a network of charging posts along the railway between Sundsvall and Storlien, the project is called "Charging in the middle lane".

So far, 17 of a total of 85 planned charging posts have been inaugurated, all in Jämtland.

- Yes, but we will have time to finish the entire stretch before the turn of the year according to plan, says Karin Frejarö, unit manager at the County Administrative Board in Västernorrland.

The chargers that are installed are so-called destination chargers, ie chargers that take a relatively long time to charge the batteries.

Quick loader in sparsely populated areas

The need for charging posts for electric cars is increasing at a rapid pace, but the expansion in sparsely populated areas is slow.

In large cities and densely populated areas, the expansion takes place on a market basis, but in sparsely populated areas, the state is forced to bear the cost.

And after Mittstråket, new investments await the county administrative board.

- We will pay for fast chargers in several different places around the county, says Karin Frejarö.
