“As part of the investigation of criminal cases on ill-treatment of the civilian population and the use of prohibited means and methods in an armed conflict, the Investigative Committee established the involvement of six Ukrainian commanders in a number of similar crimes committed from April 30 to May 1 on the territory of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics,” the message says.

As specified, criminal cases have been initiated against the identified persons.

Earlier, the Russian Investigative Committee opened two criminal cases on the shelling of residential microdistricts of Donetsk by the Ukrainian military.

On May 1, the DPR representative office at the Joint Center for Control and Coordination (JCCC) of the ceasefire regime reported that Ukrainian troops shelled the territory of the republic 12 times over the past day.

Chairman of the Russian Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin instructed investigators to open a criminal case and investigate the shelling of a monastery in the Lugansk People's Republic by Ukrainian nationalists.
