The chief of staff of the Russian army was wounded by shrapnel in Ukraine

The former Russian Minister of Internal Affairs announced that the chief of the Russian army, Valery Gerasimov, was wounded by shrapnel after President Putin sent him to Ukraine to ensure victory.

Valery Gerasimov was wounded today in Izyum in the Kharviv region of Ukraine, which has been the center of fierce fighting since the Russian invasion, according to the Daily Mail.

Putin dispatched Gerasimov to the region to ensure his land-grab efforts in eastern Ukraine were fulfilled, after the Russian military abandoned its plans to seize Kyiv at the end of March, a number of reports revealed.

An unofficial Russian source reported that Gerasimov was hit by shrapnel in the upper third of his right leg without a bone fracture, but his injury was severe.

Gerasimov was taken away from the front lines and back to Russia for further treatment, marking another embarrassing defeat for Putin's forces.

The chief of staff's injury came just a day after 55-year-old Russian General Andrei Simonov was killed in Kharkiv, according to an adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
