In the letter, the authors warn Scholz about the danger of a third world war.

“We hope that you will return to your original position and will no longer supply heavy weapons to Ukraine, either directly or indirectly.

We urge you, on the contrary, to do everything possible to ensure an early ceasefire and a compromise that both sides can accept, ”the message reads, cited by InoTV.

According to the authors of the letter, heavy weapons could make Germany itself a participant in the conflict, and "a Russian retaliatory move could lead to a situation of mutual assistance under the NATO treaty and, thus, to the immediate danger of a world war."

Among the signatories are feminist Alice Schwarzer, writer Martin Walser and science journalist Ranga Jogeshwar, as well as writer Alexander Kluge, legal philosopher Reinhard Merkel, singer Reinhard Mey, cabaret artists Gerhard Polt and Dieter Nohr, actors Lars Eidinger and Edgar Zelge and writer Julie Zee.

On April 28, the deputies of the Bundestag adopted a statement calling on the German Cabinet to supply heavy weapons to Ukraine.

As reported by Die Zeit, about 150 people tried to disrupt the speech of German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock because of her position on the situation in Ukraine and the supply of heavy weapons to Kyiv.
