On this May 1st, France is starting the "Mai à vélo" operation.

Free events are being held across the country this Sunday.

The opportunity to get advice from a professional, because the purchase of an electric bike represents a certain investment.

Faced with soaring fuel prices, more and more of you are riding an electric bike.

In five years, the number of these bicycles has multiplied by five on the roads of the country.

But one question remains: which one to choose?

On the occasion of the "Mai à vélo" operation, workshops for young and old are organized throughout France to finally get advice and make up their minds.

An electric bike from 1,000 euros

It is a purchase which remains expensive, on which one should not be mistaken.

For an electric bike, count between 1,000 and 2,500 euros.

The range is wide because it all depends on the use you want to make of it, as explained by Jean-Claude Rault, president of the French Electric Bike Association.

"Today, you can find bikes from 1,000 euros and sometimes less. You should know that their motorization is different, if they have a motor in the wheels, at the front or at the rear, the stability is not always the same," he explains.

"If it's for occasional riding and around town, that may be an option."

"With a better range bike, we can consider very regular use to go to work with greater dynamic quality", adds Jean-Claude Rault. 

Against theft, it is preferable to favor bicycles with a removable battery and a very solid lock.

"Anyway, you have to land and have the reflex of the lock right away," he says.

The president of the French Electric Bike Association also wishes to warn future users.

"You have to put a permanent lock on the bike and not just have something that you have to take out of the panniers or the backpack."
