The new permit also means that the self-driving trucks can drive a longer distance, from Södertälje to Jönköping.

Previously, the trucks that could drive the longest to Nyköping.

- It feels fantastic, there are two places in the world that I think this works in and it is in the southwestern USA and in Södertälje, says Peter Hafmar who is responsible for Scania's autonomous investments.

Two development tracks

Scania invests in self-driving trucks in two different tracks.

On the one hand, they work with autonomous vehicles in the mining industry, but they have also decided to invest in so-called Hub-to-hubs, which means that a self-driving vehicle drives a certain distance every day.

Everything will be developed in Södertälje and as part of this, SEK 1 billion has already been invested in a new test track.
