According to him, Berlin is taking steps to “become independent as soon as possible” on the issue of energy supplies from Russia.

On March 31, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had signed a decree on gas trade in rubles with unfriendly countries. 

To purchase gas from Russia, Western countries must open accounts in Russian banks.
