“The installation of the reactor vessel is a key event in the construction of the third power unit of the second stage of the Kudankulam NPP, opening up a further front of work on the installation of reactor plant equipment and allowing to speed up the construction,” the state corporation explained.
Rosatom emphasized that for the first time during the construction of a nuclear power plant, an Indian customer installed the reactor vessel using the Open Top method - this technology allows "significantly reducing the project implementation time by optimizing and reducing the time and number of installation operations."
The total weight of the reactor vessel is 327 tons.
As Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak noted earlier, Russia expects to continue cooperation in the field of peaceful atom with India, in particular, in the construction of nuclear power units at the Kudankulam site.
