In a suburb of Kharkiv that is regularly shelled, Vladislav, a Ukrainian soldier, says that the Russian attacks alternate between artillery, rocket and tank attacks.
- There is nothing here but residential buildings, schools and preschools, Vladislav told the news agency Bureau on Friday.
During a break in the shelling, residents gather on the streets outside the multi-storey buildings to cook over an open fire.
Many residents have remained in the city - despite the lack of water, electricity and other infrastructure.
The Russian offensive in eastern Ukraine continues and in the country's second largest city Kharkiv, around a fifth of the city's residential buildings have been destroyed so much that it will not be possible to restore the houses, according to the city mayor Ihor Terekhov.
"Important tactical progress"
At least one person has died in new raids on Kharkiv on Saturday night.
Another five people are said to have been injured.
Although the city is heavily staffed, Ukraine has, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskkyj, made "tactical progress" in the area, and the city remains under Ukrainian control.
- The situation in Kharkiv is difficult.
But our military and our intelligence service have made important tactical progress, says President Volodymyr Zelenskkyj in his latest speech.
