LONDON

- More than two months into the Russian war in Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky continues his repeated demands from the West for more military support to confront the Russian army.

Zelensky's speeches are not without reproach to the leaders of the West, who - according to him - are delaying in providing his country with the money and equipment it needs in its war against Russia.

However, the announced figures in a number of Western capitals show that they do not skimp on support for Kyiv, but rather the longer the war continues, the West will open its coffers to provide more weapons and money to Ukraine.

American generosity

The United States of America leads the Western countries in terms of the amount of money and weapons that have been provided to Ukraine since the beginning of the war. The volume of this aid amounted to $13.6 billion, some of which are military and some are humanitarian.

The military aid sent by the United States of America to Ukraine amounted to more than 3.5 billion dollars, in the form of weapons, and this number is expected to rise after US President Joe Biden asked Congress to sign a new aid package of more than 13 billion dollars.

Perhaps the most important military support Ukraine receives from the United States is its acquisition of the Javelin and Stinger missiles, two air defense systems that the Ukrainian army has confirmed their effectiveness in the ongoing war.

The latest package of US military aid to Ukraine includes "dozens" of howitzers, a type of artillery that fires shells at targets at high trajectories, as well as 144,000 rounds of artillery ammunition and tactical drones.

The United States also donated a number of Soviet-made armored vehicles, radar systems, and helicopters, which were previously in Afghanistan, as well as thousands of "suicide" drones.

According to the New York Times, there is a $3 billion budget devoted solely to providing intelligence support and distributing American soldiers in a number of European countries bordering Ukraine to provide military advice and training to the soldiers of the Ukrainian army.

As for the rest of the aid, amounting to 6.9 billion dollars, it is distributed over humanitarian relief, including food, medical equipment, compensation for Ukrainian companies, and the costs of receiving Ukrainian refugees.

British support

Britain occupies second place in the ranking of countries that provide military, political and economic support, which surprised many, especially when British Prime Minister Boris Johnson visited Kyiv, to be the highest-ranking Western official to visit the Ukrainian capital during the war.

And the British Ministry of Defense announced that it had allocated more than 530 million dollars, including military and humanitarian aid, with a promise to raise it in the coming months.

According to data from the British Ministry of Defense, it has sent more than $250 million in military aid in the form of advanced weapons, including missile systems, tanks and armored vehicles, and there is talk of anti-ship missiles.

The British army provides support and training to Ukrainian soldiers on the Polish-Ukrainian border, in order to use anti-aircraft missiles.

London has sent 4,000 anti-tank missiles since the start of the war on February 24, including Javelin missiles and laser-guided anti-armor missiles, with a promise to send an additional 6,000 missiles.

It is expected that the Ukrainian army will receive about 120 Mastiff armored cars from the British army, which are armored vehicles for transporting soldiers. .

The British Defense Minister promised that the military support would rise to about 600 million dollars during the coming period, without declaring the nature of the weapons that would be provided to the Ukrainian army.

doubling European support

Despite the European Union's attempt to focus on economic and humanitarian support, this did not prevent the bloc from allocating $550 million in military aid to Ukraine, mostly weapons from Eastern European countries and Germany.

In the face of Ukrainian insistence and American pressure, the leaders of the Union announced raising the military support to 1.1 billion dollars, and Poland is the main station for the transit of Western weapons towards Ukraine.

As for the financial and economic aspect, the European Union has announced the allocation of $550 million in humanitarian aid, of which $100 million is for food and health aid, and for housing Ukrainian refugees in a number of refugee centers.

The European Union also promised to provide hundreds of millions of dollars in financial aid in the form of loans and financing to Ukrainians and Ukrainian companies to save them from bankruptcy, and this financing will be through the European Investment Bank.

Meanwhile, the European Union unleashed its financial institutions to provide loans to Ukrainian institutions, as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development announced the allocation of more than $2 billion to lend to Ukraine.

More support

Ukraine's demands from the West focus on more military support. According to the available data, the total amount that Ukraine received in two months is about $6 billion, which is about $6 billion in weapons, without talking about the budget for intelligence support and training for the Ukrainian army, which amounted to $3.6 billion.

European military support to Ukraine focused on providing Stinger missiles, hundreds of armored vehicles, artillery ammunition, and thousands of anti-armor missiles, in addition to providing the necessary fuel for military equipment.

Financial support

The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund are responsible for distributing financial aid allocated to Ukraine, as the budget allocated to loans to Ukraine amounted to more than 11 billion dollars, including a first aid package worth 2.2 billion dollars, and then a second package worth 3 billion dollars.
