A 29-year-old man died after being fatally stabbed during a brawl in a town in La Manche on the night of Friday to Saturday and three men are in police custody, we learned with the public prosecutor of Coutances.

The facts occurred overnight in Saint-Hilaire-du Harcouët near Avranches.

According to the first elements collected, the blow was struck at the victim following "reciprocal insults with the occupants of a vehicle".

The young man died after being "victim of a blow to the chest with a stab," prosecutor Mickaël Giraudet said in a statement.

"Three men are currently in police custody and questioned on the facts qualified, at this stage, as murder and complicity in murder", according to the magistrate.

The exact circumstances still unknown

“Three young men in their twenties” would have got out of this car and one of them would then have carried “a stab wound to the victim”, adds the prosecutor in his press release.

The victim was taken care of by an ambulance which passed by chance on the scene and then by the firefighters, but she died despite their intervention.

According to the prosecutor of Coutances, the vehicle in question and its occupants had fled before being intercepted by the surveillance and intervention squad of the gendarmerie (Psig), thanks to indications provided by witnesses of the scene.

Apart from the three men in police custody, "two other occupants of the vehicle, 20 years old for one and a minor for the other, are heard as witnesses", adds the prosecutor.

The investigation conducted under the direction of the Coutances prosecutor's office and entrusted to the Avranches Research Brigade is continuing "in order to determine precisely the exact circumstances of this crime", according to the prosecutor.
