State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Dominica's Acting Prime Minister Osterley co-chaired the meeting. All nine Caribbean countries that have established diplomatic relations with China attended the meeting.

The participants reviewed the 50 years of experience in China-Canada diplomatic relations, exchanged in-depth views on building a closer China-Canada community with a shared future, and expressed full confidence in the future of China-Canada relations.

  State Councilor Wang Yi emphasized at the meeting that all parties agreed that over the past 50 years, especially since President Xi Jinping's visit to the Caribbean in 2013, the China-Canada comprehensive cooperative partnership has continued to deepen, and cooperation in various fields has yielded fruitful results, establishing mutual respect and equality between countries. All parties agreed to take the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the opening of diplomatic relations as an opportunity to jointly push China-Canada relations to a new level.

State Councilor Wang Yi put forward four suggestions on building a higher-level China-Canada partnership: jointly promote peaceful development, jointly draw a blueprint for the development of China-Canada relations, jointly deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and jointly continue the friendship between the two peoples.

  All parties at the meeting reached six important consensuses.

The first is to enhance political mutual trust, continue to support each other on issues concerning each other's core interests, and advocate and practice genuine multilateralism.

The second is to jointly promote post-pandemic economic recovery, push forward the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, jointly promote the implementation of global development initiatives, and promote the improvement and upgrading of practical cooperation such as Juncao.

The third is to strengthen anti-epidemic and medical cooperation, improve public health governance, and build a China-Canada health community. China will continue to provide anti-epidemic materials and vaccines to Caribbean countries.

The fourth is to establish a multi-interactive people-to-people and cultural exchange pattern. China will increase the number of government scholarships to Caribbean countries.

Fifth, to jointly address the challenges of climate change, China has decided to set up a China-Caribbean Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Fund.

Sixth, to further strengthen policy communication between China and Canada.

  The Caribbean countries welcomed and supported the global development initiative and global security initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping, thanked China for its long-term selfless assistance to the economic and social development of the Caribbean countries, and said that China has become a reliable and important partner of the Caribbean countries.
