To ensure a good connection of all laptops, smartphones, tablets or game consoles in a house or apartment, the Wi-Fi network must offer good coverage.

It is certainly possible to connect certain equipment directly to the box via an Ethernet cable: consoles, desktop PCs or TV boxes are generally equipped with it.

On the other hand, for all mobile devices, wireless is the key, and if an Internet box can generally cover a decent-sized apartment, this is not necessarily the case for a house.

A Wi-Fi repeater is a device that can be placed at a comfortable distance from the router, and which will pick up and retransmit the Wi-Fi signal where it would be difficult to pass directly.

Depending on its type of Internet connection, its box model and the Wi-Fi standards it manages,

there are different Wi-Fi repeaters on the market, and you should choose the one that best suits your configuration.

Our shopping guide will help you see more clearly and choose the option that best suits your situation.

How to install a Wi-Fi repeater?

Installing a Wi-Fi repeater on a network is not complicated, especially if both devices have the WPS function, which is generally the case with repeaters and current boxes from Internet service providers such as Free, Orange, Bouygues or SFR.

In this case, all you have to do is plug the Wi-Fi repeater into a power outlet, most of which are designed to plug directly, and press the WPS button on the repeater, as well as that on the Internet box.

The association should thus be done automatically.

If the router is not WPS compatible, it is generally quite simple to install the repeater anyway, in particular via the mobile app provided by the manufacturer, which simply allows you to find the Wi-Fi network of your box and enter his key.

The differences between a Wi-Fi repeater and a Wi-Fi extender

We often talk about Wi-Fi repeater and Wi-Fi booster. In fact, these two devices are synonymous, or more exactly, repeaters belong to the category of boosters.

The difference is mainly in their function.

A Wi-Fi extender can increase the range of your box's Wi-Fi signal, while a repeater only retransmits it in a place that is not covered by the box.
