An investigation is underway after the tragic accident that occurred this Wednesday at 5:30 a.m. on the A43 at Ruy-Montceau (Isère), reports

Le Progrès.

A van slammed into a security barrier around which three Area highway officers were working.

One of them, a 53-year-old father, was killed.

Another, aged 60, is seriously injured, with a vital prognosis still involved.

The third, a 32-year-old man, was slightly injured.

The driver was driving from Madrid to Frankfurt

The driver of the van was taken into police custody Thursday in Bourgoin-Jallieu and indicted for homicide and involuntary injuries.

The first elements of the investigation reveal that this 61-year-old German delivery man had not consumed either drugs or alcohol.

He also has no criminal record.

The man had just delivered pharmaceutical products to Madrid, and was on his way back home to Frankfurt.

He would have stopped twice to rest during the night.

However, it seems that he fell asleep at the wheel at the time of the accident, evoking a "black hole".
