2020 was a very good year for e-commerce.

Of course, the numbers were doped because of the pandemic - many who had not shopped online before were more or less forced to learn.

Big increase for food

Food was a winner in 2020, but last year the purchase of food online continued.

In total, food was sold for SEK 28.8 billion in 2021. An increase of 18.1 percent compared with 2020.

Patrik Müller is an e-commerce expert at the payment solution company Nets, which produced the statistics.

- E-commerce takes up quite large proportions of in-store purchases.

This is what it has looked like for several years.

According to a forecast made by the Trade Investigation Institute (HUI), half of all purchases in 2030 will be through e-commerce, says Patrik Müller to SVT News.

Flights, hotels and trains

Even though we lived with restrictions last year, the Swedes bought travel.

Compared with the blocked year 2020, online travel sales increased by 67 percent.

- In principle, all travel increased.

Charter, flights, hotels, trains and public transport.

On the other hand, boat cruises remained heavy and lost 50 percent compared to an already bad year in 2020, says Patrik Müller.

More clothing purchases in stores

Our need for construction products also decreased last year, something that increased a lot the year before.

Many chose to spend the money on other consumption.

But even though e-commerce is on the rise, store deaths are not quite here yet.

During the first three months of the year, for example, trade in clothing in physical stores increased by about 20 percent, according to Nets.
