Sweden is approaching a decision on NATO membership.

The security policy analysis will be completed in mid-May.

V: The biggest political decision

But now the Left Party wants the Swedish people to have a say in the issue - through a referendum.

-This is perhaps the biggest political decision that our generation of politicians make.

That we in Sweden should abandon a 200-year-long tradition that has kept Sweden out of war for a very long time.

The Swedish people need to hear the benefits but also the great risks that exist with a NATO membership, says Nooshi Dadgostar in Thursday night's Aktuellt.

She points out that the majority of the Swedish people voted for parties that previously promised that Sweden would not join NATO.

-Only five months ago, the Minister of Defense said that he will never sit in a government that will bring Sweden into NATO.

L: Seen this coming

Liberal party leader Johan Pehrson does not want to see a referendum.

He also believes that Sweden should follow Finland if they choose to apply for membership.

-We must ensure that Sweden becomes a part of this and then the Riksdag is the right place to make this decision.

We have a debate in the Riksdag, all parties must profess color and then we make a decision, says Johan Pehrson (L).

He believes that the issue of NATO has already been investigated.

- We have seen this coming, we have argued that Sweden should become a member of NATO.

We have investigations, we have a commander-in-chief who was already very clear about the benefits for five years.

This is debated.
