It had been canceled for the past two years due to the Covid-19 epidemic.

One of the main clearance sales in Europe, organized in Lille every first weekend of September, will take place on September 3 and 4, 2022, the town hall of Lille said on Thursday.

“All social, cultural and festive life is resuming, and we are going back to the usual format”, announced to AFP Jacques Richir, deputy to the town hall of Lille, confirming information from BFM-Grand Lille.

About 5,000 sellers

This event, whose origins date back to the Middle Ages, transforms the center of Lille into a gigantic flea market for a weekend.

About 5,000 sellers, including a few hundred professional antique dealers and second-hand goods dealers and thousands of private “bradeux”, who have come to empty their attics, are expected on the 75 km of streets in the city center which will be closed to cars from Friday evening.

Visitors, who usually come from all over France, but also from neighboring Belgium or even the United Kingdom or the Netherlands, will be able to hunt from Saturday morning until Sunday, at 6 p.m.

Restaurant terraces will be extended for the occasion, which usually results in the consumption of several hundred tons of mussels.

"It should be a great edition, a few days after the start of the school year, because we can see that the desire to come out and find collective festivities is there", assured Jacques Richir, who expects attendance comparable to the latest editions, to approximately 1.5 million shoppers.

“In two years, people have accumulated beautiful things to sell in their cupboards and sheds, reorganizing their interior,” he estimated.
