• Nicaragua Daniel Ortega takes by force the headquarters of the OAS in Managua

The Sandinista regime has taken advantage of the war it has waged against the Organization of American States (OAS) to convict former diplomat

Edgar Parrales

for undermining national integrity and spreading false news.

This former Jesuit, who was ambassador in Washington to the OAS during the Sandinista government of the last century, was arrested in 2021 during the campaign of the

Daniel Ortega

government against presidential candidates, political leaders, activists and journalists to thus become the political prisoner of oldest, 79 years old.

In fact, he was one of the few independent political analysts who

remained inside Nicaragua and had not opted for exile.

Among the media to which he commented on the news of his country was EL MUNDO.

"I am innocent, I am endorsed by a history of life and commitment to the defense of Nicaragua, specifically before the OAS.

The person responsible for the tragedy that Nicaragua is experiencing today is called Daniel Ortega. I accuse Daniel Ortega,

" said the intellectual against to the court that tried him in the gloomy prison of El Nuevo Chipote, where he was transferred at 6 in the morning from his home.

There he was serving detention with police custody after spending three months behind bars.

The Sandinista dictatorship did not hesitate to

represent its judicial pantomime

with all the elements.

State agents transferred Parrales to a cell, put him in a prison uniform and took him to the courtroom handcuffed with plastic ties.

"His intervention was a lecture on Law, diplomacy, dignity and courage, in which he acted as a witness for his own cause and demonstrated his innocence," revealed the Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights (Cenidh).

More than 180 political prisoners remain in Ortega's prisons since a social rebellion against his government took place four years ago.

The conviction against Parrales comes only hours after co-president

Rosario Murillo,

Ortega's wife, informed the country of the illegal expropriation of the OAS headquarters in Managua.

The idea of the regime is that it becomes the "Museum of Infamy".

"Nothing can justify a disregard of the immunities and privileges enjoyed by the facilities, assets and archives of an international organization. It opens a precedent that can lead to greater abuses against any diplomatic headquarters," denounced during the Permanent Council of the OAS his general secretary,

Luis Almagro.

Sandinista police forces took the OAS headquarters by force last Sunday after announcing that its diplomats were withdrawing from the organization, despite the fact that according to the statutes there are 18 months left before Nicaragua is discharged from the organization.

Ortega's forceful measure was preceded by

the OAS censorship against the November electoral fraud,

thanks to which the presidential couple intend to remain at the head of the country for at least five more years.

"The dictatorship has suffered a strong moral and political defeat. In the OAS, various nations rose with one voice, pointing out that the indefensible cannot be defended. The assault on the headquarters has been categorically repudiated," explained fellow diplomat Arturo McFields, Ortega's representative to the OAS until March, when he dared to publicly condemn the Sandinista leader.
